As this picture shows, Northampton, Massachusetts, was served by many difference railway companies at the same time including the Connecticut River Road, the New Haven & Northampton Railroad, and, after 1887, the Central Massachusetts Railroad. Northampton's industrial age was fueled, in part, by the coming of the railroad. The elaborate and exotic train station, with its curves and textures, was built in 1890 in the Richardson style.
