The blue teapot, part of a full dining and tea set, is marked "UNION" on the bottom. It was probably made by the Union Pottery in Durham, England in the early years of the nineteenth century. Tea drinking was a popular social custom in many homes in the days of the new republic. This teapot belonged to Caroline (Stebbins) Sheldon (1789-1865) of Deerfield.
