The founders and benefactors of the Memorial Hall Museum in Deerfield, Massachusetts, considered the furniture in this room to be so valuable that the Pocumtuck Valley Memorial Association added a fireproof wing to the Museum to house it. The photograph captures both the straight horizontal lines of the early part of the century in the painted "Hadley" chest and the turned arm or "great" chair, and the curvilinear lines of that later part of the century. The curves are evident in the legs of the table, the lines of the Windsor chairs, the reverse curves of the looking glass, and the cabriole legs on the tall chest. All the items were made in the Connecticut River Valley.
