label levels:

This chair of ash and maple, painted red and with a seat made of rush has lost the decorative urn and ball turnings on the back posts and it has been shortened. The Nims family of Deerfield, Massachusetts, owned it and gave it to the Memorial Hall Museum in Deerfield in the year that it opened. The faded paint, shortened legs and missing finials of this locally made chair show the heavy usage seating furniture like this received over several generations.
