This cake knife was part of a wedding present to Charlotte Wardner Lamson when she married Charles Hyde Warren in 1905. She was the grand-daughter of Ebenezer Lamson, one of the original partners of the Lamson & Goodnow Company of Shelburne Falls, Massachusetts.. The cake knife was one of many of the highly specialized pieces of cutlery that developed in the 1700s. Aristocratic European tableware reflected the changing culinary tastes of the day. The French royal court of the 1600s pioneered many of these developments in food, as the cooks there sought to delight their royal patrons.
