These six medicine bottles came in a simple wooden case. They were probably used by the student nurses at the nurses' training school at the Franklin County Public Hospital, which operated a training school from its founding in 1895. Nurses carried often-used drugs in cases like this; the bottles contained pills often used in certain wards. The bottle outside the box in the first image was used for peritrate, a nitrate drug used to treat hypertension (high blood pressure) and angina (chest pains), both symptoms of heart disease.
