The Greenfield Tool Company was founded in 1851 on the ashes of the Conway Tool Company which had been destroyed by fire. The company did not last and was forced into liquidation. It was taken over by the Nichols Brothers, including John R. Nichols. When John's son, J. Henry took over the company, he renamed it American Tap and Die Company. American Tap and Die merged with the Williamsburg Manufacturing Company in 1925 to form the Threadwell Tool Company, which remained in Greenfield for another sixty years. As a part of its 130th anniversary celebration, Threadwell issued this reprint of the original 1854 catalog of the firm.
