The Presidential election of 1896 resulted in a large majority of Electoral College votes for William McKinley over William Jennings Bryan- 271 to 176. The popular vote was not as overwhelmingly pro McKinley. He received 7,102,246 to Bryan's 6,492,559. This article tallies the electoral votes by state and incorrectly reports that McKinley had 277 to Bryan's 170.
