This view (c.1920) of one of the semi-outdoor rooms at The Weldon Hotel in Greenfield, Massachusetts, shows the wicker rocking chairs and the potted plants placed there for the enjoyment of the guests. Originally designed in 1905 to be used as company suites and residential apartments, the concrete hotel soon was converted to overnight lodgings. It was one of the most appealing and most expensive hotels in the region and quickly established its reputation as a highly popular winter vacation destination as well as a summer tourist stop-over.
