Moccasins are a style of leather footwear that has been made and used by Native peoples for centuries. Beaded moccasins were worn for ceremonies or special occasions. The styles and decorations changed over time and many were made for sale to tourists in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. This pair of moccasins from the 1880s is made of leather and decorated with glass beads and velvet. The beads form a leafy foliage pattern on the toe.
