This February 13, 1900 letter from George W. Holley to George Sheldon laments the fact that the trolley is certain to come through the village street of Deerfield, since "the whole business element is on that side." Mr. Holley is not a Deerfield resident and, although he is an admirer of Mr. Sheldon, argues that it is a matter for the citizens to fight out among themselves. Public opinion in opposition to that of the Railroad Corporation is a good thing in Mr. Holley's view, "for it will show the R.R. Corporation they cannot ride rough shod over us."
