The note of March 31, 1815 for the sum of $127.02 refers to a debt owed Zur Hawks from Jonathan Chapman. The problem is that Chapman was killed June 17, 1815 "by insane dyer Loveridge" before he paid his debt to Hawks. In this memorandum Hawks is making an effort to recover the money plus interest. He enters several "indorsements" and a series of figures covering a time period to May 1818, but it is not clear whether or not the debt was fully satisfied.
