At the turn of the century much American theater and pageantry was concerned with recapturing, reexamining and preserving the democratic past. The Harrow Theater's productions of "Jeanne d'Arc" and "The Exile" centered around almost mythical individuals who figured into the contemporary definition of the "classics."
