After Shays' Rebellion was put down in January, 1787, the men who had been involved in the insurrection were ordered to take an Oath of Allegiance to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Isaac Abercrombie of Pelham may well have been involved, since the originator of the uprising, Captain Daniel Shays, was also from Pelham. A year later, Abercrombie would be appointed Ensign of a Company in the 3rd Regiment.
