Brookside Park was a private park located on the border between the towns of Athol and Orange, Massachusetts, on the intersection between West Brook and the Millers River. It is now closed. In its heyday, 1900-1941, it hosted parties all summer in its bandshell and open-air dance hall. It was a product of the new culture of the automobile: located on the outskirts of the two towns, it gave young people a place to go far from the prying eyes of parents and family. Workers from Orange and Athol, two of the factory towns of north-western Massachusetts, could meet other young folks from the still-rural communities of New Salem or Royalston. The park today is owned by the Mount Grace Land Trust and contains a number of tall hardwood trees.
