19th Century geography texts such as this one covered many topics including Religion. Much of the information on world religions and other peoples in these books is inaccurate or stereotypic, as illustrated in the discussion and depiction of "Pagans" on page 51 (to see, click on the Select a page menu above) or of the "Polynesians" on page 151. Catastrophes like fires, earthquakes, and avalanches were also of great interest. (See page 120 for an example.) It was not unusual for students, who owned their own books, to write their names in their books in ink, as Eunice Nims did in this geography book (see frontispiece on the Select a page menu above).
