The document, a copyright agreement for a book, "Antiquarian Researches", written by Epaphras Hoyt of Deerfield, Massachusetts, is dated 1825 and is signed by the Secretary of State. Epaphras Hoyt (1765-1850) published several books and articles during his long lifetime. Mr. Hoyt was active in town affairs and had particular interest in the history of the Connecticut Valley. The copyright protects the author's material from unlawful use by others.
