UROSCOPIA.
DOCTORS BURT & BRECK,
Have established a permanent Office at GREENFIELD,
over the Store of L.S. JONES, in the Rooms formerly occupied by Miss BICKFORD,
where they may be consulted at all times upon Diseases incident to the human
system, and if Medicine is requested, will treat the same after the
GERMAN PRACTICE,
which, from actual observation, has been found the most efficient method of
eradicating Disease, without entailing upon the Patient the many ills incident
to common practice.
The Medicines being mostly from the Vegetable Kingdom, are safe in all conditions
of Life.
Our method of diagnosis, or determining the disease, is by the Urine, which
must be brought in a clean (2 oz. at least) Vial, and the first in the morning,
accompanied with the name and age, as a RECORD is kept of each case--thus one
person may bring several cases.
No charge for giving description or Disease when no Medicine is taken.
CONSUMPTION, and Diseases of long standing
treated with unparalleled SUCCESS.
The superiority of our method of treating Diseases is apparent to all who have
tested our practice.
N.B. The above Office will be opened on the 21st of December inst.

There is currently no available "Beginner" label. The following is the default level label: The doctors Burt and Breck were practicing Uroscopy, the practice of divining diseases by examining only a patient's urine. Uroscopy dates to medieval times. Burt and Breck describe their methods as "German," probably a reference to the practices popularized in 1770s London by Dr. Theodor Myersbach. Criticism increased in the decades following as uroscopy was denounced as quack medicine. But uroscopy served an important purpose: it did not require the physical examination of the patient. In a society where physical modesty was very important, especially for women, that kind of "hands off" medical care had tremendous appeal.
