Through the Arts and Crafts Movement, art became democratized. No longer did the ability to create art belong solely to the "schooled" artist. Now men and women in towns throughout the United States could participate in the visual arts. The local organizations that sprung up in Franklin County served as education centers. Will Hutchins' lecture on color was one of many presentations that tried to help the average person create "better" arts and crafts.
