Edward Allen had been married for nearly 40 years when he died in December 1696. In June of that same year his wife died. Eleven children, ages 37 to 11, were still alive. The livestock - horses, sheep and hogs - show us that Mr. Allen was a farmer. On the list a "loome and tackling," and "new cloth, yarn, and wool" let us know he was a weaver. The household goods are few: beds, sheets and blankets, kitchen pots, kettles, and hooks, pottery platters, a warming pan, and a candleholder. Mr. Allen owned two guns, pewter, and a number of tools for a total of 257 pounds, 7 shillings. His land and buildings mad up more than half the total at 150 pounds.
