This the last will and testament of me Persis Sheldon of Deerfield
in the county of Franklin & Commonwealth of Massachusetts,
(widow) whereby I order & dispose of all my estate in the following
manner. viz.
1st. I give and devise to my two Sons, David Sheldon & Seth Sheldon,
two undivided third parts of a lot of land lying on the great plain
in Deerfield north meadow, so called, known by the name of the
Arms lot, said tract is the same which was willed to me by late
son Epaphras Sheldon decd, by his will dated the twentieth day
of July A.D. 1807, and which tract he purchased of his brother John
Sheldon, by said Johns deed to him dated the eighteenth day of
December A.D. 1806, which said two thirds is held in common and
undivided with the other one third, owned by said John Sheldon,
said lot of land is bounded North on land of Solomon Williams
East on land of said David Sheldon, South on land of said Seth
Sheldon & West on the highway, at the west end of said tract, con-
taining three acres and an half be the same more or less.---and
my will is that said two thirds be equally divided between my
said Sons David & Seth to hold to them and their heirs forever,
they, my said sons David & Seth to pay in equal proportions between
them, my funeral charges, & also to erect suitable and proper tomb
stones at the place of my interment at their joint expense, also
to pay all just debts which I may owe at my decease, saving and
excepting as is hereinafter excepted. I give and bequeath to my
son David Sheldon, the following articles of personal estate. viz.
one silver table spoon, marked D.H. to P.S one cherry case with
drawers- one square four foot cherry table- one kitchen table-two armed
windsor Chairs, green, - four dining do-six other chairs with
perpendicular slat backs-one hair trunk,-my second size
looking glass-my largest brass kettle-my largest iron dish kettle-
one iron teakettle (nearly new) my smallest iron pot-one pair of
andirons-my largest slice & tongs-one warming pan-and I
hereby discharge my son David from the payment of all notes &
accounts of every discription which I may hold against him
at the time of my decease.-- --

John and Persis Sheldon had 8 children born to them, but lost 4 within 5 years to tuberculosis. One other daughter died at 20. Only 3 sons lived longer than their mother and all are named in the will, getting all the land, buildings and personal property.
