Why were board games so popular? Board games were just that in the early 19th century; games painted or scratched onto a piece of board, usually with a different game on each side of the board. They were simple to make at home with a slab of wood, ink or paint, and checkers of dried corn or beans. The equipment was transportable and games could be concocted with varying degrees of complexity.
<BR>This board game is very typical of the period with checkers appearing on one side and "Nine Man's Morris" appearing on the other. Nine Man's Morris is a more complicated version of the game "Tic Tac Toe".
