The Massachusetts convention voted to ratify the new Federal Constitution on February 6, 1788 with a vote of 187 to 168. The delegates are listed here by how they voted. Many of the delegates who voted against its adoption, said that they had been fairly defeated, and would support it and ask the people of their towns to do so as well. When the news of the ratification was announced, all the bells in Boston were rung for two hours.
